Daniel The Bad strikes again!
This one happened a few weeks ago, it’s taken me this long to post. Usually the only times I have available to post are on the weekends and since April we’ve been busy or gone every weekend. Well right now I have time.
I think some people would say this would be a moment when you cry after realizing what happened, then laugh about it later after you have finally been able to deal with reality.
For us, nothing Daniel does comes as a shock to us anymore. Not even this one. When this happened all we could say was, “hmm, well, get the camera, this will make a nice addition to our family blog.” In hind sight, I’m surprised it didn’t happen a lot sooner.
Daniel and Rylie followed Heidi upstairs to take a shower. Daniel wanted to take a shower with Heidi this time but was told that he couldn't. So instead he decided to take a bath in the bathroom sink.
Our shower has a fogged glass door so Heidi couldn’t see what Daniel was up to. During that time Rylie had pulled down Heidi's towel and Heidi assumed she was just playing with it. Rylie was laughing and giggling, walking back and forth from the sink to the shower door dragging the towel with her. Later we realized that Rylie was probably actually trying to help clean up the overflowing sink with the towel.
When Heidi opened the shower door she found Daniel sitting in the sink with the water running full blast. The sink had stopped up so the water was just pouring over the side, down the cabinet and onto the floor. Our bathroom was flooding.
Rylie was soaked from standing underneath the waterfall from the sink. She had grabbed Heidi's towel and was trying to clean up the mess as quickly as she could. Our thoughts-- get used to this Rylie you may be cleaning up Daniel's messes for a long time.
Heidi quickly did damage control, threw some towels down and called down to me to get the wet vac. We put all the soaking clothes, rug, towels and everything underneath the sink into the bathtub. At first it didn’t look that bad. I began soaking up the water using the wet vac and after about 15 minutes I had soaked up about 1/2 a gallon from the carpet. There was at least another half a gallon in the towels and clothes. I was feeling pretty good that maybe we had gotten most of it and it wasn't really that bad.
Then Heidi came back upstairs to tell me that the kitchen ceiling below was dripping water, the paint was bubbling out in several places. At that point I knew it was a lot worse and in spite of our efforts we were going to have to call a professional. She had already called a friend we know that does flood cleanups and he was on his way over.
So here is what that looked like after the initial emergency cleanup took place:
Here is the bathroom sink with the carpet pulled back. And the closet which is on the other side of the sink, that carpet also had to be pulled back.
Here is the downstairs. They had to cut out a couple of holes in the ceiling and also the wall near the floor because the water ran down the inside of the wall.
It still hasn’t been fixed yet, we’re waiting for the claim to be processed with our insurance. I’ll post the after pictures when we get some.
OUCH!! Oh my. Well I can't wait to see the after pics. I would've loved to have heard the conversation with Daniel after that :)
