Funniness

Is funniness a word? I try to make a note when Daniel does something really funny or cute. It's not enough to just post one thing so when I have a few things accumulated I'll post them. I've got a few now:

1. The other night we were driving home from Grandmas and we started hearing Daniel in the back seat start saying "cheese" and I just thought he wanted some cheese cause that's his favorite snack, so I just ignored him cause we were in the car, maybe he could have string cheese when we got home. After we arrived home I looked in the back seat and found that he had taken out our camera and was playing with it, pretending he was taking his own picture and saying "cheese."

2. We went to TGIF tonight for dinner. We ordered our food and asked them to bring Daniels chicken fingers as soon as they were ready because he doesn't have the patience to wait for food. A few minutes later the table next to us got served their dinner and Daniel was watching the waiter carefully totally expecting the waiter to step over and hand him his plate next. When the waiter left without bringing his plate he looked at me with a seriously concerned look on his face, then looked at mom, back at the other table with food, then looked at me again and put his hands up in the air and started talking (still mostly gibberish) but as if to say "What the Heck!? Where does the waiter think he's going I don't have my food yet!" and he kept this up for at least 10 minutes until our food was finally brought out. He would sign food with his hands then put his hands up in the air: "What's going on around here!? Where's my food!?" Where did he learn how to express himself like that?

Once he received his chicken fingers Heidi tried to sneak one away from him while he wasn't looking and put it on her plate. About a minute later when he noticed his chicken strip on her plate he got really upset and started protesting. She quickly gave it back and he was instantly happy again. A few minutes later I saw him pat his chicken very kindly and say to himself "mine." I was half expecting a Dr. Evil laugh to follow "muahaha." I've never seen him so adamantly aware of dinner before.

3. Daniel still cautiously identifies things that are hot: hot food, hot stove, hot water... I had to give him credit when he walked by the oven door, declared it Hot and then starting blowing on it to cool it off. What else would you do? Maybe put a piece of ice on it?

4. We typically read 3 books as part of his going to bed routine. Lately when we have one left to read I will hold my finger up and say ok Daniel, one more. We can read one more and then we need to turn the lights out. I started giving him a one book left warning because other wise he will insist you read to him all night long before he's content. He picked up on that so now after every book we read he gives me the "one more" sign holding one finger up. He does it after every book we read now.

He's like a little sponge, learning and mimicking all behavior around him. It's so fun to see his understanding of things expand; if it's cute because his context is a little off or if it's surprising because he's a lot more accurate than you would expect from a 2 year old.
