New Years

Heidi and Daniel went to Utah after Christmas for a week and spent News Years there with her family. Except for having Colds, they had a great time playing games and being together. I stayed home and had a pretty uneventful evening. I watched the ball drop in New York and watched a little live coverage of the party at Tempe Town Lakes then fell asleep sometime around 11:00pm.

I picked them up from SkyHarbor the next day. While we were waiting for the luggage Daniel was tired of sitting so he wanted to run around. There's nothing like letting your little toddler run around and play in a busy, holiday crowded airport. The only real attraction is the giant, silvery shiny baggage carousel. So he runs around a few people, sees the carousel and makes a beeline right for it and tries to dive in. I tried my best to entertain him while Heidi spotted the luggage.

Unfortunately the car seat didn't make the plane so we couldn't leave the airport right away. The airport did verify for us that the car seat was on the next plane that would be arriving in about 45 minutes. He gave us some food vouchers so we had lunch at Barros. The 5 minute wait in line to get our food was way too long for Daniel, he about lost it. You haven't experienced being a parent until your child throws a tantrum in front of thousands of people. Like at an airport for example. Heidi took him in the bathroom to change him while I waited outside the bathroom with the luggage. At one point Daniel screamed and all eyes went to the bathroom door. I quietly exited the restaurant and waited out in the hall.

By that time the car seat arrived so we headed out to the car. Daniel stopped me and wanted to get in his car seat, so I carried him, in the car seat out to the car. He was nearly asleep when we reached the car, then slept all the way home. It's great to have everyone home again.

  1. Wow. True parenthood. If I had seen you in the airport, I would have been giggling with delight. That's what I do when I see other kids throwing tantrums now, because somehow, it's funny (WHEN IT'S NOT YOUR KID!)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family!
