potty = candy

Daniel loves candy to the Nth degree. We've had to be careful where we put candy away in the house cause he is the kid you see building a tower to climb on to get to the top cabinet were we keep it.

We're trying the potty training again because with another baby we're sick of changing diapers and diapers are expensive. So our tactic is to use candy as an incentive for him to start using the potty. It didn't take long for him to make the connection. Potty = Candy reward.

Yesterday he kept trying to go potty every 10 minutes so he could keep getting more candy. The first couple of times he actually went and we cheered and clapped and said Yea!! When he wanted more candy he wouldn't ask for it, he would say "potty" "potty" and I'd be like, umm, you just went potty, you already have to go again? Ok lets go... he'd be all excited to take his diaper off and get on the seat.

Then he would sit and grunt until his face was bright red and maybe get a few tinkles out. Still out of breath with the color barely returning to his face he would ask: Candy!? Candy!? Candy!? I think he's finally grasped the concept of potty, even if he has an ulterior motive, which is fine with me for now as long as he doesn't give himself a hernia, but the frequency needs some tuning.
