The Compass

Both mine and Heidi's birthdays are this month, mine on the 15th and Heidi's on the 16th (I'm older and wiser...) and we decided to do something different this year. I've always wanted to eat at the round rotating restaurant on top of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Phoenix. It's called The Compass. I've lived in Phoenix my whole life and I've always wanted to go there. So I decided we would finally just go. It's pretty pricey, the main course is between $30 - $45 per plate. We shared 1 plate, their New York steak, which I think was the best steak I've ever had. It was so delicious. It looked and tasted like something from Iron Chef America.

Our waiter also told us that the chef charges $7.50 to share the plate, are we OK with that? Later my dad said that we should have asked him if he was OK if we took it out of his tip. But anyway, I highly recommend it to anyone for a romantic evening dinner getaway. It's definitely worth doing at least once just for the experience. Then you can cross that off your life's Bucket list. (Things to do before you kick the bucket).

We got there in time to see the sun set, then to admire the view of the lights across the valley after dark. I guess it makes a full 360 degree rotation every half hour, cause we made it around 3 times before we left. These pictures came out a little blurry, probably because we were moving!

I like the "Sky on fire" effect:

...and they validate parking!

  1. So you pay an extra $7.50 to have the cook prepare less food? Hmmm...

I work in the Chase building you have there in the pics, and I look at the Hyatt every day and wondered how muich it is there. We'll have to try it out... as well as your dad's line when we decide to share a plate too.

  2. Looks like you guys had fun. It reminds me of eating on top of the Space Needle, which also rotates while you eat, it is also about $36 and up for main courses, and they also charge to split a plate. But it's pretty cool to do at least once.
