The week prior to Wyatt's birthday he started having signs of croup. On Monday I took him in and they gave him a prescription and were sure that would be all we needed to do. On Tuesday I went back in since we had a horrible night with Wyatt wheezing and barking like a seal all night long. They gave him a steroid shot and again were sure that would solve the problem. The croup continued throughout the week, always better in the day but usually pretty bad at night. Wyatt and I took a lot of late night walks getting some good cool air and we invested in some really good humidifiers. Unfortunately by Friday I had to call the doctor again and they sent us to Urgent Care. Once in urgent care they gave Wyatt a breathing treatment and within an hour he was wheezing so badly you could distinctly see his rib cage with every breath. They were so worried they called an ambulance to pick up Wyatt and gave him a second breathing treatment. By the time the ambulance showed up Wyatt was breathing better (still a bit wheezy, but not too bad) and was happy. They still were really worried about him not reacting to the previous treatment so off to the ER we went. Since he was so happy we took some nice pictures to remember our fun trip. Once we were at the ER the wheezing started increasing and they eventually had to give him 2 more treatments before all of his symptoms finally subsided. Overall the entire night Wyatt was in good spirits, so it ended up being a nice bonding experience for mom and him! It was ironic that exactly a year prior we were in the hospital for his birth. Made mom a little nostalgic. Good news was by 3 am in the morning (6 hours later) we were sent home with a good bill of health. What a fun first birthday for our little Bubba. Glad he is doing much better, but we are pretty sure this will be one of the most expensive birthday presents he will get for a very long time. This last picture was of his previous croup experience in November. Hopefully this won't be a recurring problem.
